ASC3ND Technologies Brings Mission-Driven Cybersecurity Expertise to Montgomery County Businesses
ASC3ND Technologies was founded in 2022 to help federal agencies, defense contractors and commercial organizations strengthen their cybersecurity posture with practical tools, experienced talent, and mission-informed expertise.
Headquartered in Montgomery County, Maryland and led by CEO Sarn Bien-Aime, ASC3ND Technologies provides cybersecurity consulting, systems modernization and proprietary technology designed to help organizations of all sizes identify vulnerabilities, meet compliance requirements, and protect sensitive systems. Their core offerings are security solutions for federal agencies, defense contractors, and other commercial organizations that serve the federal government, helping these organizations strengthen their cybersecurity posture while navigating an increasingly complex threat environment.
"I've been successful in recruiting people coming out of the military and government who have actually served the mission," Bien-Aime said. "We've developed solutions that are very relevant to our defense-adjacent customers because they're developed with a 'for us, by us,' mentality by operators,"
ASC3ND Technologies has experienced steady growth since its launch, posting three consecutive profitable years while expanding both its workforce and its portfolio of proprietary technology.
Helping Organizations Stay Ahead of Cyber Threats
Cybersecurity remains one of the fastest-evolving challenges facing organizations of every size. According to Bien-Aime, advances in artificial intelligence are making sophisticated cyberattacks easier to launch, making proactive security more important than ever.
ASC3ND's newest proprietary platform, ARES (Automated Reconnaissance and Exploitation System), uses AI to automate penetration testing, the process of identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities before attackers can exploit them.
Traditionally, penetration testing has been expensive and time-consuming, often taking weeks or even months to complete. By incorporating artificial intelligence, ARES can dramatically reduce both the cost and the time required to identify vulnerabilities, allowing many assessments to be completed the same day.
Bien-Aime believes the technology makes enterprise-level security testing accessible to many smaller organizations that previously could not afford it.
"It democratizes ‘pen’ testing," he said.
That capability is especially timely for businesses working with the federal government.
Cyber Protection for Individuals
ASC3ND has also developed a new product to help individuals better protect their digital identities. It is an open-source intelligence platform called Asc3nsion. The platform searches public sources, and parts of the deep web/dark web, to identify personal information that may be exposed online and helps users take it down.
“Protecting your identity today means much more than preventing someone from opening a credit card in your name. Advances in artificial intelligence now allow bad actors to use publicly available audio, video and other online content to create convincing fake recordings and images that can be used to impersonate individuals, target businesses, or deceive family members.”
ASC3ND's Asc3nsion platform is designed for this next generation of identity protection. It continuously monitors a customer's digital footprint across public websites, data broker databases, and the deep and dark web—the parts of the internet most people never see—to identify exposed personal information and help users reduce their online risk.
Preparing Contractors for New Federal Cybersecurity Requirements
Many companies throughout the Washington region are part of the Defense Industrial Base, supplying products or services to the U.S. Department of Defense. Those businesses are now facing stricter enforcement of the federal Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements.
Given that strict CMMC compliance enforcement will begin this fall, contractors will increasingly need verified cybersecurity compliance in order to compete for or retain certain federal contracts.
ASC3ND’s consulting services and technology solutions help organizations prepare for those requirements. Having achieved its own CMMC Level-2 compliance in less than 90 days, with well below typical costs, the company now assists other organizations seeking to navigate the certification process more efficiently.
Bien-Aime says the firm's ideal customers include any organization still relying on traditional manual penetration testing as well as government contractors actively preparing for CMMC certification.
Modernizing Legacy Technology
Beyond, but related to, cybersecurity testing, ASC3ND also works with organizations to modernize aging technology environments.
Many businesses have accumulated older systems that have been connected to newer technologies over time, creating security gaps that may not be obvious until they are hacked.
ASC3ND consults with organizations to identify those vulnerabilities, reduce risk, and build safer and more resilient technology environments.
Building a Life and a Business in Montgomery County
Bien-Aime has called Montgomery County home since 2002.
Originally born in Haiti, he spent much of his childhood in the Boston area before meeting his future wife while attending graduate school in Connecticut. As they planned their future together, the couple literally spread out a map of the East Coast and evaluated where they wanted to start to build their life together. Navigating south from one city to the next, they came to the DMV and paused.
Then, when his wife, a physical therapist, was offered a position in Montgomery County, they relocated to Rockville. Today they live in the Derwood area, where they’ve raised their two children.
Bien-Aime says one of the county's greatest strengths is its diversity.
"I've enjoyed raising my kids here," he said.
Although most of his attention during ASC3ND's early years was devoted to building the company, 2026 has marked the beginning of greater engagement with Montgomery County's business community. He has begun exploring county business resources, workforce development programs, and opportunities to establish a bricks and mortar office as the company continues to grow.
“We're entering an exciting stage of growth. After building a strong consulting business, we're expanding by developing software solutions inspired by the real-world challenges our customers face. I'm always looking to meet entrepreneurs, business owners, community leaders, and organizations that believe in collaboration because great businesses are rarely built alone.”
As ASC3ND expands beyond its government customer base, Bien-Aime hopes to become an active participant in Montgomery County's broader business ecosystem while helping organizations prepare for the next generation of cybersecurity challenges.
