Graham Accounting and Advisory, LLC: A Steady Hand With the Numbers

When Kayon Graham talks about her work, she is clear and measured. Accounting, bookkeeping, and tax services are her foundation, but what distinguishes her practice is the deliberate way she has shaped it around the needs of individuals, small businesses, federal contractors, nonprofits, and organizations navigating government funding.

Kayon’s firm provides core accounting services: bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, and tax preparation for individuals and small businesses. Alongside these, she offers specialized accounting and advisory services tailored to clients who must meet the more complex requirements of federal contracts and public funding. For many business owners, especially those new to government work, the requirements can feel opaque. Kayon sees her role as helping clients make sense of what is expected and putting the right systems in place from the start.

“A lot of my clients come in overwhelmed,” she says. “My job is to make their financial picture clear and manageable, whether that’s day-to-day bookkeeping or helping them understand the additional requirements that come with government funding.”

Although she officially launched her website only recently, Kayon spent months planning, refining her services, and thinking carefully about how she wanted to position her business before making it public. That deliberate approach reflects her broader philosophy: build something solid, then grow it thoughtfully.

Originally from a Jamaican family, Kayon lived in New Jersey before settling in Maryland. She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rutgers University, a master’s degree in accounting and information systems from University of Maryland Global Campus, where she is also currently completing her MBA. Her professional career spans more than a decade, and that experience shows in how calmly she talks about both the technical and relational aspects of accounting. She understands that behind every set of books is a business owner trying to make decisions, manage risk, and plan for the future.

While her work is rooted in numbers, Kayon is candid that relationships matter just as much. Many of her clients are small business owners who need an accountant they can trust and talk to openly about both their challenges and their aspirations. Her advisory work often involves helping clients understand the story their financials are telling them and how those insights can guide next steps, whether that is preparing for tax season, pursuing a government contract, or strengthening internal financial controls.

Kayon is still in the early stages of tapping into local business resources and networks, but she is intentional about exploring them. As a member of the Maryland Black Chamber of Commerce, she first learned about the Black Business Database (BBD) through the chamber's newsletter, which highlights opportunities for small, growing businesses. Participating in the chamber is the beginning of a broader effort to connect with local ecosystems that value alignment and mutual support.

“I’m small, I’m growing,” she says plainly. “So, I’m looking to take advantage of opportunities that make sense and help me build visibility.”

She is selective about where she invests her time and how she presents her work, preferring steady growth over shortcuts. It is a mindset shaped by years in the field and a clear understanding of what her clients need most: accuracy, clarity, and guidance they can rely on.

As her business continues to evolve, Kayon is focused on serving clients well and expanding thoughtfully into the areas where her expertise is strongest. For individuals, small businesses, and organizations navigating accounting, taxes, and the complexities of government funding, her approach offers something valuable: professionalism and expertise grounded in real-world experience.

Kayon Graham’s approach to accounting helps business owners build a financial foundation strong enough to support their next steps throughout the entire lifecycle of their business.
